Hello, I’m Miko, the editor of Ichinomiya Guide. Based in Kanagawa Prefecture, I hold a Grade 1 certification — the highest level of the Shinto Culture Test (Jinja Kentei 神社検定), Japan’s official qualification program that recognizes expertise in Shinto culture and history.
I created this site to share the quiet beauty of Japan’s Ichinomiya shrines and to offer simple, accurate guidance on how to visit them with respect. My goal is to help travelers understand shrine etiquette, traditions, and their deeper meanings through clear and thoughtful English explanations.
My years living in the United States and Canada taught me how to bridge cultures — sharing Japanese traditions in ways that feel both authentic and approachable.
My Philosophy
- Shinto shrines are living cultural heritage — not just tourist attractions.
- Every visitor can show respect, even without speaking Japanese.
- Kind and accurate information helps build understanding between cultures.
